English Open Highlights, Rankings Shifts & Podcast Recaps
Snooker Weekly #11
With the English Open behind us, there are several snooker players to watch this season, along with some remarkable moments to reflect on. Meanwhile, the British Open begins immediately the day after the English Open final.
🇦🇺 English Open ends with Neil Robertson winning
What a week it was! Ishpreet Singh Chadha, the Indian snooker player, reached his first semi-final by defeating Mark Selby, while John Higgins achieved his 1000th century, and Neil Robertson ended his title drought. Other highlights from the English Open include:

Holt could use some help in one of his frames.
Fascinating statistic: Judd Trump hasn’t lost a best-of-9 match since 16th December 2022 by winning 31(!) best-of-9 matches in a row.
John Higgins making the absolute best fluke of the tournament.
John Higgins making his 1000th career century.
In the tournament final, Neil Robertson started strong, but the suspense returned when Wu Yize won five frames in a row. However, Robertson ultimately claimed victory, a moment that meant a great deal to him, as it was the first final his dad attended . All eyes are now on the 20-year-old runner-up Wu Yize, who delivered an outstanding performance throughout the tournament.
🏴 Dylan Emery wins Q Tour 2
With all eyes on the English Open, it was easy to overlook that Dylan Emery won the second event of the Q Tour. This marks his first Q Tour victory from just his second final—an impressive achievement. To be fair, I remembered especially this fluke of the season a while back by hearing his name again!
🔀 Ranking changes
With the English Open behind us, it’s time to check the rankings again. Neil Robertson vaults into the top 16. He moves up 11 spots from 26th to 15th. Runner-up Wu Yize advances nine places from 40th to 31st. Meanwhile, John Higgins, now ranked 17th, drops out of the top 16 for the first time in 29 (!) years. All significant changes can be found on Totally Snookered.
