Issue #2; Judd Trump wins 40th professional title in Shanghai
Trump wins Shanghai in a weekend where Ray Reardon is remembered
With the Shanghai Masters last week, Trump was trending on Twitter for a full week. However, most tweets were mentioning a murder attempt and a withdrawal from his rival, rather than the winner of the Shanghai Masters this season. In absolutely stunning form, Judd Trump reached the finals by beating former Shanghai champion Ronnie O’Sullivan and continued his form on the day of the final against Shaun Murphy.
🇨🇳 Judd Trump wins Shanghai Masters
Judd Trump captured the Shanghai Masters title last weekend in a final against Shaun Murphy. In absolutely great form, Judd managed to win the final with 11 to 5 frames and even had time to give Shaun some tips during the game.
💚 Passing of Ray Reardon
Last week, snooker legend from the 70s, Ray Reardon, passed away at the age of 91. SnookerHQ published a great article explaining who he was and what he meant for the sport. He was truly a great character. At the start of the final of the Shanghai Masters, a moment of silence was held to remember Ray, and winner of the final, Judd Trump, paid tribute to Ray in an interview beforehand. Ray Reardon did coach Ronnie O’Sullivan, and there is nothing more wholesome than watching this video call between Ronnie and Ray. He certainly knew how to do his trickshots!
🔥 Beaten by amateur
Chinese 16-year-old amateur Zhou Jinhao won his match against world number 12 Zhang Anda, concluding it with a fluke on the black ball. Despite his loss against Ronnie in the next round, his play looks promising. If he continues to play like this, we’ll definitely see him secure a spot on the main tour in the future.
👞 Suit up
Not sure if Selby is overdressed or others are just underdressed, but he’s looking good at the start of this new season. It’s great to see him looking confident after last season, where he was considering walking away from snooker.
🎙 Snooker talk
After winning the Q school, Polish player Antoni Kowalski earned a spot on the main tour. In the newest episode of BBC’s podcast Framed he opens up about how he feels ready to play on the main tour and why Ronnie is not his favourite player.
👾 Street Shuffleboard
Not sure what this game on the Shanghai streets is called, but Ronnie seems to like it. Best part of the clip is the guy giving Ronnie directions. Maybe an idea to consider this as your new challenge after your snooker career? Not sure what the prize money is here, though.
