🏴 Mark Selby wins British Open
Mark Selby defeated John Higgins 10-5 to claim the 2024 British Open title, his first ranking title in 18 months. Selby delivered impressive performances, including multiple century breaks, and extended his lead during a crucial evening session to secure his 23rd career ranking title. This victory, marked by his resilience in earlier rounds, also broke his run of never winning a tournament hosted by ITV, while Higgins faced a fifth consecutive final loss in ranking events.
The rankings after the British Open moved Mark Selby up to fourth in the world rankings, surpassing Ronnie O'Sullivan. Judd Trump maintains a large lead at the top, with Kyren Wilson in second. Elsewhere, Oliver Lines rose 16 places after a semi-final appearance, while Ryan Day dropped nine places due to previous earnings being deducted from his ranking.
📈 1000 centuries for Judd Trump
Judd Trump became the third player in snooker history to compile 1,000 career century breaks during his 2024 British Open quarter-final against Mark Allen. His run of 101 in the second frame put him in an exclusive club with Ronnie O’Sullivan and John Higgins, who also reached this milestone recently. Despite Trump's historic achievement, Allen went on to win the match 5-3, but Trump’s career now boasts this new accolade alongside his 29 ranking titles.
